How Do Stewards Handle a Full Car Park on a Sold-Out Night?
On a sold-out night, stewards run a full car park through pre-booked spaces, QR code scans at the gate, guided parking, and a controlled exit. Every driver has a guaranteed space before arriving, so nobody circles hunting for a spot. At Premier Parking in Manchester, gated entry, on-site stewards and 55 CCTV cameras keep a packed site orderly from first arrival to last departure.
Why doesn't a full car park turn into chaos for us?
A full car park only becomes chaotic when the number of cars isn't tied to the number of spaces. We tie them together. Every space is booked online in advance, so the stewards know how many vehicles to expect before the gates open.
Each booking produces a confirmation email and SMS, both carrying a unique QR code. Drivers show that code to a steward on arrival. The steward scans it, confirms the booking, and guides the car into the gated warehouse. There's no queue of people asking "have you got room?" because the answer was settled when the booking was made.
What actually happens when you arrive?
The process is short and the same every time:
- Pull up to the gate and have your QR code ready on your phone (email or SMS, either works).
- A steward scans the code and checks your booking.
- You're guided into a space by stewards on foot, so you're not left to work out the layout yourself.
- The gate stays locked throughout the event once the site is filling.
Sat-nav users should enter the postcode M40 8YD, which takes you right to our gates. Arriving within your booked window matters. If you turn up outside your booked time and date, we may not be able to accommodate you.
What are the opening and closing times?
Times depend on the event, and they're worth checking before you set off:
- Co-op Live events: the car park opens at 2:30pm and closes at midnight.
- Manchester City home matches at the Etihad: we open 2 hours before kick-off and close 1 hour after full time.
That gives you time to park without rushing and a decent window to get back to your car afterwards. If you're planning to meet friends beforehand, build in the 10 to 13 minute walk to either venue.
How do the stewards keep the site safe when it's busy?
Stewards are on site at all times, and that matters most when the car park is at capacity. Their job is to direct vehicles, keep walkways clear, and be the visible point of contact if someone has a question or a problem.
They work alongside the physical set-up:
- 55 CCTV cameras monitored 24/7, covering the whole site.
- Floodlighting, so an evening fixture or a late concert finish isn't a walk back to a dark car.
- A gated entrance that stays locked during events.
Cars left for five or six hours deserve proper cover. Stewards on the ground and cameras overhead do different jobs, and we think you need both. You can see the full set-up on the Premier Parking site.
What facilities are there if you're waiting around?
Event days involve waiting, whether you're arriving early or letting the crowds clear after the final whistle. We've got clean, separate male and female toilets on site, plus vending machines with refreshments for the journey home.
It sounds minor until you've spent an hour in a queue outside a venue with nowhere to go. Being able to use a proper toilet and grab a drink before getting back on the road makes a long day noticeably easier.
How does the shuttle bus work?
The walk from our site to the Etihad Stadium or Co-op Live is 10 to 13 minutes. Most people are happy to stroll it, but an optional shuttle bus is available for anyone who'd rather not, such as guests with mobility concerns, people in heels, or anyone dealing with bad weather. If a shuttle matters to you, check the details when you book.
What is Premium Early Exit parking?
Leaving is where a full car park usually slows down, because every vehicle wants out at the same moment. For that reason we offer a limited number of Premium Early Exit spaces for an extra £3.99.
These are for drivers who want to get away quickly once the event ends. Numbers are limited, so if you know you'll need an early departure (a long drive home, a babysitter waiting, work in the morning), choose it at the time of booking rather than hoping it's still available later.
What should you know about changes and cancellations?
Being strict on bookings is what keeps a sold-out car park running smoothly, so it's worth knowing the rules before you commit:
- Cancellations 7 days or more before your booking can be refunded, minus a £10 administration fee.
- Cancellations within 7 days are non-refundable.
- Vehicle registration changes can be made by logging into your user account.
- Date or time changes, where approved, carry a £15 rescheduling fee, and changes within 7 days aren't guaranteed.
- If we make an error, such as a double booking, you get a full refund.
Common questions about full car parks on event nights
Can I turn up without a booking on a sold-out night?
We run on pre-booked, guaranteed spaces, so booking online first is how you get in. Each booking comes with a QR code that stewards scan on arrival.
What if I can't find my QR code at the gate?
Check both your confirmation email and your SMS, as each contains the same unique code. It's a good idea to open it on your phone before you reach the gate so the scan takes seconds.
Is the car park safe to leave a car in for the whole event?
The site is gated, floodlit, covered by 55 CCTV cameras and staffed by stewards throughout. We're rated Excellent across hundreds of Google reviews.
Do I need to arrive at a particular time?
Yes, within your booked window. For Co-op Live we're open 2:30pm to midnight, and for City matches from 2 hours before kick-off until 1 hour after full time.
Ready to book your space?
If you're heading to the Etihad or Co-op Live, booking ahead is the simplest way to take parking off your list of worries. Reserve your guaranteed space at premier-parking.co.uk, add Premium Early Exit if you want a quicker getaway, and bring your QR code on the day. Our stewards will take it from there.
