Running Late to an Event? Here's What to Do
That sinking feeling when you realise the clock is against you and you've still got to park, walk, and find your seat is one of the most stressful parts of attending a live event. Whether it's a Manchester City match at the Etihad or a big night at Co-op Live, arriving late doesn't have to mean a chaotic scramble — not if you've planned the parking side of things properly.
Here's what to do (and what to avoid) when you're cutting it close.
Pull Up Your Booking Confirmation Before You Leave
If you've pre-booked your parking, the most important thing you can do before you even start the car is locate your confirmation. We send every booking via both email and SMS, and both include your unique QR code. You don't want to be searching your inbox while a steward is waiting at the gate.
Screenshotting the QR code and saving it to your camera roll takes about three seconds. Do it at home, not in the car park queue.
Know Your Opening Times — And Use Every Minute You Have
For Etihad Stadium matches, we open 2.5 hours before kick-off, so even if you're running behind schedule, there's a reasonable buffer if you're not arriving at the last possible moment. We also stay open 1.5 hours after the final whistle, which means you're not being rushed out the second the match finishes either.
For Co-op Live events, the car park opens 2 hours before the show starts and you can exit up to 90 minutes after the event ends. That's a decent window on both sides, which genuinely takes the pressure off if traffic has been unkind to you.
Knowing these times matters. If you're aware you can still park and make it in with time to spare, you're far less likely to make rushed decisions — like abandoning your car on a side street and walking back to a fine or, worse, a tow.
Use the Sat-Nav Postcode, Not Just the Venue Name
One of the most common reasons people arrive later than planned is simply going to the wrong location. Our address is Canal Side Works, Hulme Hall Lane, Manchester, M40 8YD — and if you punch that postcode directly into your sat-nav, it takes you right to our gates. No guesswork, no wrong turns into residential streets.
Searching for "Etihad parking" or "Co-op Live parking" in a maps app can throw up multiple results, some of which won't be us. Use the postcode and save yourself the detour.
Don't Rely on Roadside Parking as a Backup
If you're running late, the temptation is to spot a gap on a nearby street and think you'll sort it. Around both the Etihad and Co-op Live on event days, that approach rarely ends well. Streets fill up fast, parking restrictions are enforced, and you can easily end up spending more time finding a spot than you saved by skipping a pre-booked space.
Pre-booking means your space is guaranteed. It's waiting for you, not disappearing because someone else got there first. That certainty is genuinely valuable when you're already behind schedule.
Let Our Stewards Do the Work
When you arrive, you don't need to navigate a confusing multi-storey or figure out which level still has spaces. Our stewards guide you straight in. You show your QR code, they direct you, and you're parked within minutes of pulling through the gates.
The whole process is built to be fast, because we know that on event days, time genuinely matters. 55 CCTV cameras, floodlit surroundings, and locked gates during the event mean you can walk to the venue knowing your car is secure — one less thing to think about while you're trying to enjoy the night.
Take the Shuttle if the Walk Feels Too Long
It's a 10 to 13 minute walk from our facility to both Co-op Live and the Etihad. On most occasions, that's perfectly manageable and actually quicker than waiting for transport. But if you're running late or mobility is a factor, our optional shuttle bus is available to get you to the venue faster.
It's worth factoring this into your timing — and worth knowing it's there as an option rather than something you only find out about after you've already started walking.
The Real Fix: Pre-Book, Then Relax
All of these tips are most useful when you've already pre-booked. If you haven't, and you're hoping to sort parking on arrival, you're adding uncertainty to an already stressful situation. Spaces are limited, and on a sold-out event night, availability won't be on your side.
Booking in advance means a confirmed space, instant confirmation by email and SMS, and a QR code ready to go. On the day, your only job is to show up — and even if "showing up" is cutting it fine, you've already removed the hardest variable from the equation.
If you've got an event coming up at the Etihad Stadium or Co-op Live and you want parking sorted without the stress, secure your space at Premier Parking before the good ones go.
